                Biographical/historical information
                    This collection consists of one photo featuring members of Greenville, North Carolina's Farmers Consolidated Tobacco Company, one photo documenting an interior view of Greenville, North Carolina's downtown fire station and eleven images depicting flooding in the North Greene Street area of Greenville, North Carolina.
                    The flooding in Greenville, North Carolina occurred during the summer of 1940.  Historically, this flood was not as destructive as other floods in Greenville before or since, and other communities suffered worse damage.  
The Farmers Consolidated Tobacco Company was founded in Greenville in 1903 and is documented as active as late as 1918.  Among the members featured in the photograph are prominent figures in Greenville's civic and business history. The first united fire company was established in Greenville in 1902.

                Scope and arrangement
                The collection consists of thirteen black and white photographs taken by an unknown photographer.  The bulk of the photographs document a flooded area near North Greene Street in Greenville, North Carolina (circa 1940).  Among the landmarks featured is Dal Cox's Esso service station.  Other topics are represented by one photograph.  These include the interior of Greenville's downtown fire station (circa 1908) and members of Greenville's Farmers Consolidated Tobacco Company (circa 1908).
