Papers (1939-1995, 2007) including McDaniel family and Harvey family genealogical research; and U.S. Air Force Flying Status Files and related files (1942-1980), recording Linton's military career. These files document his career including the U. S. Military Academy Class of 1942, his pilot training and World War II service in the 5th Air Force in the Pacific, and his postwar service in Germany with the 12th Air Force, and the 601st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron and 526th Tactical Control Group. Also documented are his service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, his continuing education courses, and his retirement.
Biographical/historical information
Lt. Col. John Harvey Linton graduated from Kinston High School and then went to the United States Military Academy West Point. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a fighter pilot. After the war he became an engineer for the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in their military contracts division. Lt. Col. Linton earned a Masters in Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He was married to Nan and had two daughters, Laura and Lydia, and a son, John H. Linton, Jr.
Scope and arrangement
The bulk of this collection are records and orders from the United States Air Force and Army Air Corps. The dates of these records range from 1939-1995. There are two folders that contain genealogical data of the McDaniel and Harvey Family.
