Biographical/historical information
Harold Raymond Andrus, Jr. was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1924 and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1948. He served aboard the USS Fiske and USS Willis A. Lee. Andrus served in the military for 29 years and earned medals of Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation and Antarctica Service. After his service, Andrus resided in College Park, Maryland for 50 years. Andrus died in 2012. He was survived by his wife Shirley McCampbell Andrus and four children. Materials include "Destroyer Leaders" 1949-1973, a history of the frigate USS Willis A. Lee (DL-4) compiled for the reunion at San Diego, California (4-7 November 1999), by Harold R. Andrus, Jr. In addition are materials related to the Cleveland (OH) Harborfest (11-15 July 2001). These include "The Tall Ships Challenge" media kit, including correspondence, brochures, news releases, original art, photographs and printed materials. Other related material includes Cleveland (OH) American Accordionists Association Accordion Festival (11-15 July 2001) printed materials and notes in English and Ukrainian. One artifact is present, an engraved cigarette lighter commemorating the USS Willis A. Lee.
