Memoirs of U.S. Naval officer during World War II along with a copy of a map reflecting the route of the USS Meade in the Pacific (1942-1945).
Biographical/historical information
H. A. I. Sugg was born in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma in 1918. Sugg's was interested in the U.S. Military Academy, but was too young so he went to Linfield College at McMinnville, Oregon for a year. The following year he applied again the U.S. Military Academy, but there was no more room, so he applied and was granted entrance into the United States Naval Academy. He was discharged from the Academy three years later because of his poor eyesight and wasn't allowed to join the Navy again. After the strike on Pearl Harbor, Sugg's decided to try again and ended up joining the USS MEADE at Staten Island.
Scope and arrangement
This collection contains memoirs "USS MEADE (DD 602), Goes to War," "USS Brinkley Bass (DD 887): Some Personal Recollections, and "The AOE Revisited," written by a U.S. Naval officer during World War II. This collection also includes a map of the route the USS Meade made in the Pacific (1942-1945).
