Seaman 2nd Class Daniel K. Hargan (b. 1923) of Rochester, New York, began service in the Navy in 1942. Most of his tour of duty was in the Atlantic aboard the USS YMS 66, an auxiliary motor minesweeper, headquartered in the Panama Canal Zone.
Correspondence in the collection consists of letters from Daniel K. Hargan. References are made to routine, restrictions, and entertainment on board ship and in port; uncertainty about leaves and personal relationships; and difficulties with the mail. A cursory description of Cristobal, Panama, is given.
Also included are miscellaneous letter referring to Victory Parade broadcasts and letter-censoring.
