Scope and arrangement
The 1851-1852 accounts concern money paid for goods, including a bucket, wood, drayage and food; household expenses for sheets, towels, and pillows; and such personal expenses as board, liquor, cologne, shoes, theatre, medicine, pew rental, and watch cleaning. Expenses for the year were totaled.
The entries for April and May 1864 begin with a notation of money received from Col. [William] MacRae. Entries were made for household expenses including flour, bacon, meal, and eggs; and personal expenses such as medicine, clothing, tin, and the Soldier's Aid Society. Expenses are totaled for April.
The final section of the volume concludes with essays on God and life, prayers, and an evening hymn.
