A "War Diary" of U.S. Navy Service (1943-1946).
Biographical/historical information
Joseph Vetter was born on March 21, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph E. Vetter and Matilda McNally. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served in WWII; in the European, Pacific, and the North African Campaigns. Significant duty stations include USS Dallas DD-199 and USS Scribner APD-122. He received several medals for his service including, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Scope and arrangement
This collection includes a photocopied personal war diary of Joseph Vetter dated 2/24/1943-3/7/1946 with a timeline of events and a war diary of the USS Liddle. Also included are personal sentiments, including letters, medal recipient slips, and ship photographs.
