Biographical/historical information
Robert White was born on July 17, 1923, in Gridley, KS. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served on the USS Borie, the last ship sunk, during World War II. He received several medals for his service, including the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After he served, attended Texas Tech University, and graduated in 1950 with a BS in Electrical Engineering.
Scope and arrangement
This collection includes an original copy of Noah's Ark News published by, for, and about the crew of the USS Borie. Additionally, this collection includes photographs of Robert 'Bob' White and some of his crewmates aboard the USS Borie, as well as additional photos of various Navy ships. Also included is a History of the USS Borie (DD 704) from the Office of Public Relations, Navy Department.
