Bill Brinkley was born March 26, 1926, in Thomasville, NC to Willie Foil Brinkley, Sr. and Mamie Garland Brinkley. He graduated Granite Quarry High School in 1943 and Catawba college in 1950. Mr. Brinkley served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nevada. While in the Navy he was involved in the D-Day, Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. He was owner and operator of W.F. Brinkley and Son Construction Co. A Notable project was construction of the Oak Island Lighthouse in 1958. Mr. Brinkley was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, the James Mathis Sunday School Class, and the Livengood-Peeler-Wood American Legion Post 448.
