A Book of the History of U.S.S Waukesha, AKA 84. (undated)


Biographical/historical information

The U.S.S. Waukesha AKA 84 was built in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Navy acquired the ship in 1944 and turned it into an attack cargo ship. During World War II the ship was charged to the Pacific and was ordered to carry cargo Okinawa. After the haul was unloaded she was ordered to proceed to Pearl Harbor, but the order was cancelled due to the upcoming surrender of the Japanese. After World War II the U.S.S. Waukesha AKA 84 was decommissioned in 1946 and returned to the United States Maritime Commission's War Shipping Administration.

This collection contains one folder of the Historical Book U.S.S. Waukesha AKA 84. The book contains photographs, new technologies aboard the ship, and first-hand testimonies of sailors about the ship.
