Papers (1841-1890) of Lenoir County, NC Family, including correspondence, accounts, tax records, judgment, special orders, promissory notes, a bankruptcy certificates, a will, a bill of sale for an enslaved person, and miscellaneous materials.
Josiah Wooten was born May 25, 1818 in Greene County, North Carolina. His mother was Nancy Best Wooten (1792-1871) and his father was Thomas Wooten (1795-1844). Josiah married Nancy Sutton (1825-1896) in 1838 and had at least three daughters, Winifred "Winnie" Wooten Spence (1846-1928), John Thomas Wooten (1848-1929), and Lucetta Lou Wooten Hardy (1850-1920) and a son, Benjamin Wooten (unknown). Josiah registered for the military service in 1862 during the Civil war. His son, Benjamin, also was conscripted and was a part of 27th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry.
This collection contains one archival box with four folders. The folders include correspondence, tax and financial records, legal documents such as a will, and other documents relating to the Wooten family.
