Wentworth M. Blount was a candidate for U.S. Army officer from Elizabeth City, NC. During 1918 he was stationed at Central Officers Training School, (Company 11) Camp Gordon, Ga and in the Sixty Second Pioneer Infantry, Camp Wadsworth, SC. No further information is known on Blount.
The papers of U.S. Army officer candidate Wentworth M. Blount include training notebooks, military manuals, special orders, an equipment inventory and other printed materials. The notebooks (undated) are presumed to be kept by Blount and have the titles "Bayonet Notes" "Grenades" and "Platoon Leader". There is another notebook on various military topics that has the name of Sergeant E.C. Denton, Company L, 321 Infantry in the front and is assumed to belong to him (undated). In addition there are Memorandums to Officers (1918) from Headquarters, Sixty Second Pioneer Infantry, Camp Wadsworth, SC, Special Orders (1918) from Camp Wadsworth and Camp Gordon listing names of other infantry soldiers, Various other printed materials (1918) with both Camp Gordon and Camp Wadsworth written on them and an equipment inventory sheet (undated). Also present are military publications that consist of "Manual of Interior Guard Duty, United States Army, (1914, corrected to April 15, 1915), "Scouting and Patrolling" by Captain William H. Waldron, 29th U.S. Infantry (1916) and "Management of the American Soldier" by Major General David C. Shanks, National Army (undated). Unrelated, also present is a financial ledger book (1885-1888) with "Maggie Bell" written on cover containg business financial transactions for merchandise.
