Papers (1935-1983) of members of USNA class of 1941, including copies of The Log, certificates, itineraries, pamphlets, a pass book, photographs, and other materials.
Omar Christian Keller was born in Arlington, NE (9 October 1917), enlisted in the Navy as a non-commissioned officer (January 1935), went to the Navy Prep School (1936), and received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA, 1937). Keller resigned from the Academy (1939), re-enlisted in the Navy (1941), was transferred to the Navy Fleet Reserve (1956), and retired in 1973. Keller also served on Boy Scout committees and alumni association boards.
A small amount of correspondence concerns Keller's appointment to the Academy (22 December 1937). Other records include a continuous service booklet (1935–1948) that chronicles Keller's movements within the Navy, a battalion financial passbook (1937–1939), official documents, and military and civilian certificates.
The collection is primarily comprised of memorabilia pertaining to a USNA midshipman's cruise to Europe (1938), including pamphlets, publications, and post cards related to sights in Denmark, England, and France. Also included are issues of the USNA publications, The Log (Vol. 28, nos. 1–26; 14 October 1938–26 May 1939) and the Plebe Log (30 September 1938), and three photographs of the Blue and Gold class reunion in 1983.
