The notebook of minutes of the Tarboro Temperance Society (N.C.) kept from January 9, 1880, to December 10, 1880, contains an account of new members installed, resolution for admitting women, members expelled for various reasons, and amounts collected for dues and fines at the meetings. A list of the membership is included in the back of the minute book.
The Blue Book of rituals and procedures of the Sons of Temperance was published in 1859, and listed there are all the officers, representatives, and committees for the national society. Also found is the emblem with a detailed description of its significance, passwords, and their different relevant situations concerning proper use, specific rules for the use of the gavel and the care and responsibility of the ritual book during and between meetings, detailed descriptions of regalia, and a diagram of the placement of officers and brothers during meetings. The rituals included are: opening service, order of business, ceremony of initiation, closing service, installation service, and suggested music selections for the society.
