The bulk of the collection contains genealogical information about the Hollinger, Greenawalt, Little, and Iseminger families of Maryland and Pennsylvania. Included are birth and death lists, family group sheets, copies of Bible Records, and histories of the Hollinger family.
The Greenawalts of Pennsylvania and the Littles of Maryland were related through marriage. Although the collection touches on a variety of topics, the main emphasis is genealogical in nature.
Of particular interest is a journal (1855-1959) kept by three generations of the Little family. Entitled "Percy's Journal by His Mother," it begins with entries by Margaretta Hofman Little concerning childhood illnesses of her son, Percy, as well as movements of the family from Maryland to Ohio and back to Maryland (1855-1865). Reference is made to Percy being "vaxinated" in 1858. Margaretta Little continues the entries until 1869, her last entry describing the treatment of a nitric acid burn received by Percy. Percy maintains the journal until 1898, giving descriptions of various jobs held, including teaching positions in various Maryland schools and peddling patent medicines (1881).
Percy also makes references to family matters including marriages, births, and deaths. An additional entry was made around 1959 by Paul R. Little, son of Percy, giving information on places lived, vacations, vital information on children, relocation to Elizabeth City, N.C., housing costs, public school teacher's retirement pay, and pay as treasurer of Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Other items include clippings, receipts, financial records of the estate of Rush E. Greenawalt (1939), a list of items in a safe deposit box (1942), a prescription, addresses, recipes, and a copy of a poem by Jacob J. Meyers concerning the disunity of the Old Order of River Brethren (1960) of the Mennonite church.
