Biographical/historical information
These papers represent an accumulation received from Oak Glen Farm at Goldsboro, N.C. The farm was the home (now demolished) of William B. Crawford and others represented in the papers.
Scope and arrangement
The bulk of the correspondence is personal and business letters relating to the affairs of William B. Crawford, M.D. Other items include routine testimonial speeches, poetry, assorted financial papers, and three newspapers of the 1890s.
An item of major interest is the office ledger of Dr. E. H. Hornaday, covering the period 1891-1892. Entries are by patient, showing fees charged and often the illness treated.
An 1884 pamphlet of instructions for medical examiners of the insurance department of the American Legion of Honor is in the papers also.
Newspapers include the Raleigh, N.C., State Chronicle (December 29, 1892); the North Carolina Christian Advocate (October 16, 1895); and the Chicago, Illinois, Ram's Horn (February 7, 1895).
