Biographical/historical information
Carolina Cunnigham lived in Raliegh, NC and was a genealogist. She published the Jones Records Vol. 1 and Vol 2 in 1964. The book contained genealogical data of the Jones families of Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. She was a professional genealogist and published several genealogical books.
Scope and arrangement
The Carolina Cunningham Collection contains documents from 1636-1798. The collection is broken up into eleven series with the bulk of the materials being genealogical records from families in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. Materials within the collection include newspapers, magazine clippings, courthouse records, correspondence, and oversize materials.
Series 1: Sixteen boxes of genealogical records in alphabetical order by the family's last name.
Series 2: Three boxes of county courthouse records in alphabetical order by the family's last name.
Series 3: Two boxes of county courthouse records in alphabetical order by the North Carolina's County. Also included are marriage records and early names in the Piedmont Region.
Series 4: One box of county courthouse records in alphabetical order by the Virginia County. Also included is the Virginia State Archives Patent Book and other miscellaneous documents.
Series 5: One box of county courthouse records from Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
Series 6: Nine boxes of genealogical records in alphabetical order by the family's last name.
Series 7: Four boxes of miscellaneous items such as correspondence, pedigree charts, cemetery lists, book company catalogs, newsletters, tax records, and maps.
Series 8: Eight boxes of genealogical correspondence in alphabetical order.
Series 9: Two boxes of publications from magazines such as the State Magazine, Sons of the American Revolution, and The Courier. Other publications include church records, book sales, and bulletins.
Series 10: Two boxes of clippings from Life Magazine, Newsweek, and other articles about genealogy, history, and universities.
Series 11: One oversize folder containing maps, land records, architectural drawing and military lists.
