Abstract:
"In the far-western reaches of the state, two men who learned to quilt from the communities around them are dispelling stereotypes while continuing a beloved — and necessary — mountain tradition."
Growing up in Hayesville, Howard Blankenship has been quilting since he was a boy, a skill handed to him and his siblings by his grandmother Bertha.
Winston-Salem native Zak Foster started quilting in 2010, Som of his creations have appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
