Abstract:
In 1865, members of a new congregation in New Bern began constructing a church from slabs brought from James City. The new church, known as Slab Chapel, was later replaced and renamed as Saint John Missionary Baptist Church. Since then, the church has been involved in numerous programs benefiting the community with strong emphasis on mission ministry and outreach.
