Abstract:
The Harrington Manufacturing Company began operations in 1922 in Lewiston, in Bertie County. Its initial product was a peanut picker. The company at first was plagued by the Great Depression and a series of fires, but it persevered. Today Harrington produces a line of farm equipment for tobacco and peanuts and has a dealership chain from Virginia to Florida. Leadership of the company has remained in the Harrington family since the company's founding.
