Abstract:
James Spencer Love came to North Carolina seeking a job in 1919. Four years later he owned the Gastonia Mill and began a textile empire that at his death on January 20, 1962, included 147 plants in eighteen states and seven foreign countries. Around half of the plants and employees are located in the state.
