David “Carbine” Williams was a native of Cumberland County who made major developments in sporting and military weapons, including the M1 Carbine, a weapon that gave American soldiers superior firepower in World War II.

Abstract:

Corporations are purchasing large tracts of land on the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula for the purpose of building superfarms in counties including Dare, Tyrrell, Washington, Hyde, and Beaufort. Taylor examines how these farms are changing the landscape of eastern North Carolina and how it might affect the state's wildlife and marine ecology.

Abstract:

The North Carolina Wildlife Commission's Division of inland Fisheries conducts a city lake management project to improve fishing in them. The project dates back to the 1960s with the division managing the fisheries if the cities will open the lakes to public fishing. Currently, there are forty-two lakes under management. Surveys are conducted to determine the success of the previous management practices and to evaluate present management needs.
