The second in a series of three articles about the Battle of Fort Fisher, Wellman offers details about what he refers to as, \"the Confederacy's greatest naval battle.\" He describes the bombardment of the fort and the first two attacks. Illustrations depicting the Federal fleet off Cape Fear are also included. The first article in this series can be found in the October 1952, Volume 20, Number 18 issue, pages 3-4, 19.

Burke Davis of Greensboro, North Carolina is writing a historic novel about the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Author of several novels illuminating neglected or hidden early American History, Burke's latest work was inspired by his most recent home, the location of Lord Cornwallis's stay during the battle.

Lacking the equipment and staff to provide adequate education across the state, North Carolinians are now facing overcrowding in schools. Pleasants describes the poor state of affairs and the funding required to bring North Carolina schools up to par with the rest of the nation.
