John Bryan/Bryant, b. May 26, 1761 in Bertie Co., NC, d. Feb. 24, 1841. He moved with his family to Pitt County at a young age. He m. in 1786 to Nancy ____ ( sister of Dinah Whitehurst). Dinah Whitehurst had a son, Reuben Whitehurst, b. Sept. 13, 1787. The records mention Mrs. Sally Lewis, Capt. John Moye, John P. Pitt, Henry Stancill, Henry Austin, Capt. James Lanier, Col. Jonas Johnson, Drury Bullock, Capt. John Hodges, Henry Moore, Dinah Moore, Moses Highsmith, Jesse Thomas, Francis Bryan, William Whitehurst. In Apr. 1882, Henry Haddock (while drunk) went to his brother’s, William Haddock’s house and started a fight. Henry was stronger and had William on the ground pelting him. A 14 year old son of William, came out of the house with a shot-gun, aimed it at Henry’s head and fired, killing him instantly.

George Alexander Evans (1849-1908) was the son of Richard Evans and Hannah Sherman. Richard Evans was born in Greenville, Pitt Co., NC, who was a lawyer in Columbus, Miss. The Evans family was introduced into America by two brothers, Richard and George Evans, who emigrated from Wales about 1730 to Bath, Beaufort Co., NC.
