Pickleball is described similar to but without the pretense of tennis. Its popularity increased dramatically during COVID. Currently, North Carolina has 418 pickleball courts at gyms and recreational facilities. Charlotte has 25 and is growing.

Originally, Tommy Wheeler was looking to find a crop that would attract ducks in Pamlico County, where he hunts. He and Al Spruill formed Tidewater Grain Co. in 2018, which markets an heirloom variety of rice referred to as Carolina Gold. While more expensive than growing corn as food for ducks, consumer demand for the rice variety is highly sought after and profitable.

"Too few full-time nurses are causing severe service and financial problems at North Carolina's hospitals. In north Carolina, registered nurses earn on average $71,000. Reliance on travel nurses has become unsustainably expensive, forcing hospital systems like ECU Health to chut down a number of it clinics in rural areas.
