Neighborhoods near North Carolina Central University in Durham need cleaning up. Many properties in this campus-adjacent area have unresolved housing-code violations, and the crime is not limited to prostitution, break-ins, and drug use. While the University owns several vacant lots in the area, there aren’t sufficient funds to clean up the area surrounding campus.

Citizens are working to make Dix Park a vital part of downtown Raleigh. To support their efforts, the city and Dix Park Conservancy are hosting Destination Dix, a free, one-day community festival in the park this Saturday. The festival will feature food trucks, artists, and a variety of musicians, with Chatham County Line and Bombadil as headliners.

After the Carrack Modern Art closed, DAM has been using the loft as their gallery. This Friday, DAM will have an art show to gauge public support for the gallery and form community relations.

For the past two decades, Dave Wofford has been hand-setting movable type and cranking paper through a press to create beautifully textured printed artifacts. Wofford started Horse & Buggy Press in Raleigh before moving to Durham, where he has run it out of the Bull City Arts Collaborative, which he cofounded for the last decade.

Several lawsuits have been filed alleging that North Carolina’s House Bill 2 violates the sex discrimination provisions of Title IX.
