We haven't broken it yet." For years after "Angels" appeared, Charlotte arts funding operated on the principal that if they didn't like a production connected with gay or left-centered themes they wouldn't fund it. This was backed by a voting bloc on the Charlotte city council known as the "Gang of Five".
