Epidemiologist Steve Wing is studying radiation effects near Three Mile Island and the impact of the hog industry on residents in eastern North Carolina. Wing is teaching communities about the scientific process to help them in political debates about environmental racism.

For most migrant farmworkers in North Carolina, adequate health care seems unattainable. Migrant women, in particular, are challenged with raising children under harsh living conditions. To help improve their lives, researchers from the School of Public Health are working to make health care more accessible and effective.

Abstract:
Dr. Nancy Milio, professor of nursing and professor health policy, spent a month interviewing Norwegian officials as a basis for an analysis of the success of a comprehensive government farm-food-nutrition policy. The policy brings food supply into line with a national dietary pattern, and could be successful in the United States.
