The Raleigh Police Department's Carolina Mudcats Rookie League was created to steer at-risk youth away from the lures of the street and toward the enjoyment of baseball. The program also helps the youngsters to view police in a new light.

The Raleigh Neighborhood Police Officer Program places officers in stressed areas as a crime deterrent. Officers receive a rent-free home for two years and must spend a minimum of 20 hours monthly of their own time becoming involved with residents.

Two bar patrons were arrested after standing on a sidewalk in Glenwood South, one of Raleigh's essential late-night hubs. The charges were dropped but the men who were arrested took the case to federal court, arguing four police officers targeted them because of their race.

After two young African-American men were shot and killed by Raleigh cops, city officials say it’s necessary to understand different truths. Meetings are being held through Raleigh's Community Conversations Series, which is designed to facilitate a dialogue between residents, police officers, and elected officials about race and police relations.

Featured was the Chairman of the Raleigh based Congressional Club and newly formed Coalition for Freedom. Ellis discussed his reasons for switching to the GOP. He also expounded on a belief in a revival of Republican support across NC. Among evidence offered was the election of its first Republican senator in the century, Jesse Helms, an election in which Ellis played a pivotal role.
