Ruley argues that Ernest King's conviction on murder charges was based on his reputation rather than the evidence. King is a reputed drug lord from New York City who allegedly was attempting to take over the Durham drug trade.
Abstract:
Former Durham real-estate business owner and life-insurance salesman Ronnie Sturdivant was found murdered in one of his properties recently. Sturdivant is believed to have been murdered by one of his tenants. Sturdivant was a polarizing figure who was known for his vision and for running sub-standard rentals. His properties was hit with dozens of housing violations and Sturdivant was accused of assaulting and threatening tenants. Many admired the African-American entrepreneur, even those who did disagreed with his vision and methods.
