Abstract:
"In 1895, a Presbyterian minister arrived in the High Country. A bold and visionary leader, he brought churches, schools, a hospital, a children's home, and even electricity to Banner Elk." Rev. Edgar Tufts was founder of Lees-McRae College and supervised the construction of it earliest buildings dating back to the 1920s. Lees-McRae is the highest elevation college east of the Mississippi River.
