Abstract:
In the 1940s there were five million bee colonies in the country. Now only half that number exists. About one-third of the nation's hives die annually. Honeybees pollinate a large portion of the food we eat, worth as much as $200 billion a year. Currently the survivorship of the colonies is too low to be certain that pollination demands can be met each year. Mihaylova examines research which seeks to link certain pesticides to the deaths of the bees.
