Abstract:
The Wilkinson Cabin, thought to have been built by a man named Reese in 1760, is the oldest home in Watauga County. Today, is it located on Highway 421, which was formerly part of the Daniel Boone Trail. Through the years buffaloes, Native Americans, settlers, soldiers, pioneers heading west, and Daniel Boone passed by this historic structure.

Abstract:
Valle Crucis' Mast General Store was reopened by John Cooper in 1980. The store in Valle Crucis was originally opened in 1883 and is a historical icon in the town.

The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country is a nonprofit group that has raised money to restore the 1938 historic theater in downtown Boone, North Carolina. The renovated theater will function primarily as a performing arts center, but an independent film series is also planned.
