Abstract:
Carl Goerch, founder of and editorial contributor to The STATE magazine, recounts his personal experience onboard a hijacked Eastern Airlines flight out of Raleigh, NC. According to Goerch, the hijacked flight received extensive media coverage on television and newspapers. The flight left Raleigh with intended destinations of Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL but was hijacked by an armed gunman who accessed the cockpit by threatening a stewardess with his weapon. As per the request of the hijacker, the flight was diverted to Havana, Cuba after refueling in Jacksonville, FL. All passengers were fed while in Havana and returned to their original destinations unharmed.
