Abstract:
Dodd describes Fremont's annual Daffodil Festival. The festival is marking its 20th anniversary in the small Wayne County town. Festival organizers seek to keep it a community affair by keeping commercial carnival activities out and encouraging local craftspeople and artisans to participate.

Abstract:
"In this Wayne County town, residents don yellow and green to celebrate the bloom that put them on the map." When created in 1867, Freemont was originally called Nahunta. In the mid 1950s, the towns garden club initiated a beautification effort with two bushels of daffodil bulbs. Residents were inspired by the work and soon areas all over town were being planted with this early spring favorite. Freemont held its first Daffodil Festival in the late 1980s.
