Abstract:
Albemarle Steam Navigation Company was originally incorporated in 1860 as the Albemarle Steam Packet Company, which planned to operate boats between Edenton, NC and the Seaboard and Roanoke Railroad Station in Franklin, VA. They ordered a passenger and freight boat in 1860, but it was purchased by the US Navy and converted to a gunboat. In 1866, Albemarle Steam Navigation Company was incorporated for a boat line on the Blackwater-Chowan route. The company remained in business until 1929.
