Abstract:
The old Burwell School, located in Hillsborough, will undergo reconstruction. The school operated from 1837-1857 as a women's Presbyterian school and later became a normal house after the Burwell family left in 1857 to teach school in Charlotte. Governor Sanford purchased the site for preservation in 1963, and several exterior buildings including, the old kitchen and the schoolroom, need restoration. The primary building remains in excellent condition and requires only minimal work.
