In 1791, Congress chartered the â€œfirstâ€ United States Bank in Philadelphia. That bank was liquidated in 1811. That same year the â€œsecondâ€ United States Bank was chartered and empowered to operate branches. Rogers recounts the history of the North Carolina branch which was located in Fayetteville.
