Abstract:
Lau traces the history of women potters in North Carolina, drawing on the lives of Dorothy Cole Auman and Nell Cole Graves. Graves, a Seagroves native, was the first woman potter in the eastern Piedmont pottery community.

Walter and Dorothy Auman received a 1989 Folk Heritage Award for contributions to the Seagrove pottery tradition. They also worked with the state to promote Seagrove potters and participated in archaeological digs.
