Wing Haven is located just southeast of Charlotte and serves the community and migrating wildlife. The bird sanctuary began in 1927 as the garden of Eddie and Elizabeth Clarkson. Today the Charlotte landmark is home to 150 bird species, 100 types of plants and trees, ad welcomes 7,000 visitors annually.

Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary in Charlotte's Myers Park neighborhood is a three-acre place of solitude for those hoping to briefly escape their busy metropolitan lives. The home and gardens belonged to Edwin and Elizabeth Clarkson from the 1930s through 1970.
