Abstract:
In response to the perceived threat of foreign war, the town of Fayetteville, North Carolina established a volunteer military company on August 23, 1793 captained by Robert Adam. This company of citizen soldiers was prepared to fight at all times, even tendering their services to President Thomas Jefferson in 1807 when a second war with England threatened the Union. This company aided regiments in Mexico and during the American Civil War, and participated in several Centennial celebrations.
