In 1984, the non-profit center moved from UNC Charlotte to the 57 acre Latta Nature Preserve in Huntersville. Currently, however, the center is starting to outgrow its space. A fundraising campaign has been launched.

Wing Haven is located just southeast of Charlotte and serves the community and migrating wildlife. The bird sanctuary began in 1927 as the garden of Eddie and Elizabeth Clarkson. Today the Charlotte landmark is home to 150 bird species, 100 types of plants and trees, ad welcomes 7,000 visitors annually.
