Abstract:

Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of author F. Scott Fitzgerald, vacationed often with her parents in Western Carolina. Little could she know that she would die in a fire in 1948 in Asheville's Highland Hospital, where she was confined as a psychiatric patient. The cause of Buncombe County's most disastrous hospital fire, in which nine died, has never been determined.

Abstract:

One of the strongest influences on the young Thomas Wolfe was his teacher, Margaret Rose Roberts. Wolfe attended the North State Fitting School in Asheville from 1912 to 1916. It was there that Roberts nurtured his writing talent and opened the world of fine literature to him.

Abstract:

Bird hunters sometimes curtail their activities or give up hunting altogether for a number of reasons, including business schedules and distance to hunting grounds. For these hunters use of Licensed Controlled Shooting Preserves can provide an alternative. The aim of hunting preserves is to provide hunting that is as natural as possible. Mitchell describes how preserves operate and includes a list of licensed shooting preserves in North Carolina.
