Nash Central High School student, Lance Norris began swimming at the Rocky Mount YMCA at age 5. He took the swimming world by storm at age 14 by laying claim to the fastest 1,000-yard swim nationally in his age group.

the Coastal Plain League has a history going back to the 1930s. The Greenville Greenies were charter members of the original CPL, which competed from 1937-41.CPL came back in 1997 and in 2022 was purchased by Capitol Broadcasting. An agreement was reached to re-establish the Greenville franchise starting in 2024.
