Abstract:
William Maclean Sr. was a surgeon mate during the Revolutionary War and became a public servant in Lincoln County after the war, serving in the House of Commons and Senate. The journal reproduced here concerns his passage between Lincolnton, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee during May 1811. The trip was to resurvey some of his land investments in that area and the journal includes details about his travels, expenses, and people encountered along the way.

Abstract:
This is a reprint of letters from businessman and Blount family agent Major James Cole Mountflorence to William, John Gray, and Thomas Blount. The letters, written in the era of the French Revolution, provide information on the commercial enterprises and political and social affairs of the Blounts, one of North Carolina's most influential families during this period. The introduction provides a biography of the Blounts and their relationship with Mountflorence.

Abstract:
This is a reprint of the travel diary of Karl Bernhard, Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, commonly referred to as Prince Bernhard, during an 1825 tour of North America taken while on a break from the Army of the Netherlands. The diary was only written for family and friends, but was published due to popular demand. The entries included here deal only with his writings on the Carolinas, however, the introduction includes information on the diary as written, the publication or the diary and its contents as a whole.
