Abstract:

Prior to surveys made of the North Carolina South Carolina border in 1764 and 1772, there were numerous cases of both state's granting land in what is now the other state. North Carolina, for example, granted at least 1,000 mappings of land in south Carolina as far as present-day Laurens and Newberry Counties.

Abstract:

This newspaper commenced sometime in 1848 in Wadesboro. Due to a great deal of records lost to courthouse fires in Anson County, the compiler notes the information abstracted here of great benefit to researchers. Because the county borders South Carolina, a number of related notices for that state also appear in the information provided.

Abstract:

Research by the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts has revealed much about the material culture of Germans in piedmont North Carolina, but less is known about their history in South Carolina. The discovery of illuminated manuscripts called fraktur indicate German settlement in the Dutch Fork area, and a mix of religious and cultural influences on art.
