Abstract:
The first winter resort was in Kittrell, built by Mr. Collins in 1856. In 1870, W. H. Davis, from Boston, purchased the resort and renamed it Davis Hotel. He added several additions and enclosed the piazzas with glass, hence its nickname the \"glass\" hotel. It stood until April 29, 1893 when it burned.
