Owned by South Carolina's Catawba Indian Nation, Two Kings Casino in North Carolina's Cleveland County is up for expansion, As many as 2,600 people could be on the payroll if the project excels. In January, Gov. Roy Cooper stamped his approval on a gaming compact by which the state would receive a percentage of the casino's $5 to $10 million per year revenue.

Aldersgate originally began as The Methodist Home in 1945 to serve retired preachers and widows. Viewed for many years as an upscale facility, critical financial problems in November 2022 forced the organization to discontinue a major expansion project. A correction plan is currently underway through the North Carolina Department of Insurance. The retirement complex includes Mecklenburg County's oldest home built in 1774.
