Abstract:
North Carolina's largest sports event is scheduled for the summer of 1987, when the U.S. Olympic Festival will be held in the Research Triangle cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The Festival, an Olympic-style competition in thirty-four sports, is the largest national sporting event in the world. The Triangle-area was chosen over ninety-seven other competing cities, based on criteria including, athletic facilities, hotel space, and the ability to secure community financial support.
