Garza Baldwin, Jr., group vice-president of Olin Corporation's Fine Paper and Film Group located in Pisgah Forest in Transylvania County, is featured in this month's We The People Magazine's North Carolina Businessman in the News. The plant, which employs over 3,000, makes a substantial share of all the country's cigarette paper, cellophane, lens tissues, high-quality lightweight printing paper, one-time carbonizing tissue and a variety of other specialty and fine paper products.

In 1897, George W. Vanderbilt traveled to the English Isle of Jersey to collect a choice herd of Jersey cattle intended for family use. Today there are 1,500 Jerseys in the herd at Biltmore Dairy Farms, one of the largest and finest dairy herds in the world.

North Carolina has a reputation of being the brick-making capital of the world. Pine Hall Brick and Pipe Company, which originated in Pine Hall in Stokes County in 1922, has opened a new, fully-automated plant near Madison. In a seven and one-half hour day, the plant can turn out 100,000 of Pine Hall's famous red-burned shale bricks. Over a year this would represent half of the company production of 100-million bricks.
